If we say “Spain” you probably think sun, beach, waves… but right now, fall is almost here. And does that mean the best time of year in Spain has passed? Of course not!

The fall can be the best time of year to stroll through Spain’s beautiful parks. Imagine taking a relaxing walk through the Retiro in Madrid or the Ciudadela in Barcelona with mild weather, under red and golden leaves falling from the trees.

Fall is also the best season for eco-tourism. The middle to the end of September is grape harvest season and many cities dedicated to wine culture organize harvest festivals. Logroño, capital of the famous Rioja region, and known for its delicious soups, is a great example.

Although the main seasons for big festivals are the spring and summer, there are also interesting events in the fall, and of course, they are much less crowded. Just a few examples include the FIZ (Indie music festival of Zaragoza), Monkey Week (in Puerto de Santa María, Cadiz), and the bizarre and extravagant Mundo Idiota Festival in Madrid.

Foodies will also find various interesting gastronomic events in the fall. A few examples include the Rose of Saffron festival in Consuegra (Castile la Mancha) all about this coveted spice; the rice harvest festival in Catarroja (Valencia) at which, along with different rice dishes of every variety, they celebrate ancestral harvest techniques; and of course, the seafood festival in O Grove (Galicia) at which you can try different delicious seafood specialties.

There are events of all shapes and sizes in the fall in Spain. Don’t some of the ones we just mentioned make you want to come?
