Ten reasons why you'll return to Spain
We'll give you ten reasons why we're sure you'll return to Spain. You might not know some of the interesting things we recommend.
Have you returned home after a stay in Spain and feel a certain nostalgia? Do you feel like coming back but don't know why? Perhaps, if you look inside yourself, you will find one of these reasons to return.
- Wine: Spain may be small, but practically every region has its own wine... and most have several! Great vintages, reds, whites, and rosés, each with its own personality, which can be the perfect complement to both a seafood dish and a chocolate dessert.
- Ham (Jamón): if you miss those thin, cured slices of meat, don't be surprised. Many Spaniards living in other countries long for them too! If nostalgia were a dish... it would be full of ham!
- Festivals: it's nothing you don't already know. Practically every month we have a festival to celebrate. Additionally, you will likely find that, for some reason, we celebrate holidays from your country here, such as St. Patrick's Day, Halloween, or Oktoberfest. We have a gift for making international festivals our own!
- The "Sobremesa": at first, it might shock you that after eating we spend up to half an hour (several hours on weekends) to chat or have coffee; but when you leave, you will miss those moments spent talking about current events, the divine, and the human.
- Olive Oil: whether used for frying potatoes or as a salad dressing, you will surely miss this healthy and light ingredient. It’s likely that, as happens to us Spaniards, you will eventually consider it an aberration to cook with butter!
- The Free Tapa: haven't you just gone down to the bar you usually visit with your friends in your city and missed them putting out some olives or chips with your pint of beer?
- Going anywhere in less than four hours: if you are from a vast country like the USA, Russia, or Canada, you will surely feel nostalgic thinking that you could go to forested landscapes like those in northern Spain or beautiful Mediterranean beaches in the time it takes to watch a long movie... and return to your accommodation on the same day, even if it's in the center of the country!
- Store hours: small businesses close between 8 and 9 PM; department stores close at 10 PM. Basically, here you could have a light dinner and still have time left to do a bit of shopping.
- Bars: on every Spanish street, there are at least two bars... from modern pubs specialized in gin and tonics to traditional spots older than their oldest regular. If you can't find a place to your liking, it's because you don't want to.
- The people: no matter what time you go out, whether it's 2 in the afternoon or 4 in the morning, you will find someone on the street. Some are partying, others are going to work, others are heading home... Here, you will never feel alone!
We could list many more things, but we would like you to tell us. What do you miss? Why would you return to Spain?
