If there were a perfect season to visit Seville it would be the fall. There are hardly any tourists to compete with, mild temperatures and great weather allow for leisurely drinks on beautiful terraces, and, best of all, you can wander through the city exploring all of its beauty in comfort with a fresh breeze to keep you energized. Take a look at some of the best places to explore and things to do in Seville this fall!
Traditional plans in Seville
Of course this is a classic... but it really can't be missed! A trip to the Catedral de Santa María de la Sede is an intimate and almost mystical experience. The many tourists of summer have all but disappeared, allowing you to explore the art and beauty of the largest Christian Gothic cathedral in the world in the way you like best... You may even get to climb to the top of the Giralda without waiting in line at all!
Of course there is also the Real Alcázar and its beautiful gardens. In the summer a leisurely walk through the impressive palace experiencing periods from the Mudejar to the Renaissance can be refreshing. But in the soft autumn air, the experience can become the perfect romantic evening making you fall in love with Seville (if you haven’t already)! And don't forget: starting in September the Alcázar hosts many exciting concerts and festivals, like Las noches de los jardines.
Think you can only seeSeville's famous processions during Holy Week (Semana Santa)? Think again! You can also see plenty of authentic and passionate processions in the fall. On October 12 for example, a procession with La Virgen del Pilar takes place; and on the same day the famous Triana district hosts a procession with La Virgen del Rosario de la Parroquia de Santa Ana.
Triana and the long-established neighborhoods
Speaking of Triana... this neighborhood comes alive with activity in the fall. There are tons of shops to explore, plenty of interesting sights for those who love a good stroll and exciting restaurants for foodies to experience…
And speaking of the food in Seville, this one one element we're happy to say does not change with the seasons. It is delicious any time of the year! And until well into October you can still enjoy an afternoon lounging on a terrace with a caña or a glass of wine and the delicious and abundant tapas that will come along with them. And when the weather isn't all sunshine and cool breezes? Take a trip to one of Seville's gourmet markets that have recently taken the city by storm. The famous Lonja del Barranco, in the beautiful Triana, is a great place to start.
Routes In and Outside the City
The fall is also the best time to explore some of the best known tourist routes in Seville. Check out the ones that pass through the city's Muslim heritage, its Jewish Quarter or the places Columbus visited before leaving for America.
And lastly, although it is about 28 miles from the city center, for many visitors it is a pleasant surprise to know that the Sierra Norte de Sevilla, with its hiking trails, unique rock formations and beautiful nature is a great place to feel the fresh air of Seville in the fall.
With all of these exciting places to explore, the writer Antonio Gala just had to be right when he said, "It's not bad that sevillanos think they have the most beautiful city in the world... it’s that they just may be right."
