Capital of the autonomous community of Galicia, final destination of the historic Way of Saint James pilgrimage, UNESCO World Heritage Site, European City of Culture of 2000... Santiago is one of the world's most beautiful and intriguing cities.

Constructed upon the purported final resting place of Saint James Apostle (Santiago Apóstol), Santiago has long been a welcome sight for weary religious pilgrims' eyes. The cathedral, a stunning Romanesque edifice with sumptuous Baroque decorations, is surrounded by a beautiful old quarter packed with old convents, lovely centuries-old stone architecture, winding medieval alleys, pretty plazas and much more. Plus, the whole historic part of town is very compact and almost entirely pedestrianized, making visiting the city on foot easy and enjoyable with everything just a few minutes' walk from the cathedral.

Santiago is also a university city, with a 33,000-strong student body that adds to the city's lively dynamic and provides it with a vibrant nightlife scene, a jam-packed cultural calendar and an all-around youthful atmosphere.
