What does Spain offer in summer?

If we were to ask people on the street about Spain's summer offerings most would probably mention the "Spanish trilogy" of sun, food and wine. However, Spain in the summer offers other things to do. This month we're going to take advantage of this space to comment about some enjoyable alternatives.

Do you like the mountains? Spain has some really amazing mountain ranges. The Spanish prefer to visit the mountains that are located in Huesca (Aragón) and the Sierra de Tramuntana (Mallorca). International visitors to Spain prefer the Sierra Nevada (Andalusia), the Spanish Pyrenees and the Picos de Europa (a range that spans León, Asturias and Cantabria). Another area that is also popular with everyone is the island of La Palma (Canary Islands).

If you are looking for a different and more relaxing kind of tourism Spain has a great selection of rural tourism opportunities. Spain is a country of little villages, each one with its own history, festivals and even monuments waiting to be discovered. Many "casas rurales" (rural houses) are renovated country homes of excellent quality and since this is a popular option with Spaniards, housing of this type can be found at reasonable prices.

Since so many cultures have influenced Spain in the past and present, as well as the history that has been played out in the countryside, how can there not be an option for historical tourism? From visiting prehistoric monuments to entering buildings where people that have influenced the course of the world have lived, Spain offers the visitor a portal to the past. Of course, you cannot forget the influence that medieval castles had over the land and today there are numerous examples in excellent condition waiting to tell you their story.

Spain is the second country in the world to have had declared World Heritage Sites, meaning that Spain is a leader in cultural tourism. In fact, almost 10 million tourists visit our country for cultural reasons such as seeing our museums, world recognized expositions and discovering historical sites... Thousands of years and many cultures that make us who we are stand behind us!

Of course, we can't forget the tourism available for those gourmands who are looking for the best food and wine adventure. Every one of Spain's regions has, apart from tasty dishes, delicious and elegant wines. Even better, many of the best restaurants in the world are found here.
